Central Cascades is a gorgeous place for a sunset Engagement session at Lions Rock. It was so much fun adventuring up to this epic Washington view point for sunset. The sunset is always so gorgeous and perfectly dreamy for photos. The session started with the bluest of skies and I’m obsessed with how the sunlight begins to glow further into the evening we went.

Why is sunset the best time for photos?

Sunset is one of the best times to take photos. Why is this? Well, the lighting is best at this time of day. During the day usually around 12:00-3:00 the sun is at the highest peak in the sky. Which cast shadows. Shadows can be fun for photos. However, are not the most flattering for the human face. So, the lighting gets better as the sun gets lower because as a professional photographer I know how to work with the light at help create even lighting on faces. Which is what we’re looking for when photography couples, engagement sessions, weddings, elopements etc. Even lighting at the end of the day is better for photographing people.

Sunset can also provide with fun golden or colorful sky backdrops. There is also some harsh lighting that can be fun to play around with and get dreamy, film, cinematic photos.

Also, second to sunset being the best lighting for photoshoots. Sunrise is next. most people are not early morning people. So, sunset ends up not only being great lighting but a good time for most people as well. To feel their best for their photoshoot.

Overall a professional photographer should be able to capture amazing photos in all kinds of lighting. I also enjoy capturing photos in the middle of the day as well. Sometimes, especially on a wedding day, we have no other choice. So, where sunset is the best time for photos. Don’t get to hung up on the time of day. Do what works best for you.
